    Activity Instructions:


    Before your first class, construct your color or shape monster (a piece of foam board with two eyes and a cutout mouth).
    Cut out shapes to feed the monster. (Circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles) Review the shapes with children. Then have them put the shapes into the monster’s mouth as you sing about them.

    Activity Instructions:

    Pass out echo microphones. Have children explore speaking in the top of them. Then ask for some of the classes favorite songs and sing them.
    Have the children echo solfege syllables, Do-Sol ascending and descending one syllable at a time.
    Teach the song by singing the syllables a little bit at a time and have children echo back. Then sing the song with regular lyrics.

  • Musical Composition Activity: Bean Bag Notation

    Activity Instructions:

    Have children throw the bean bags onto the music carpet, or staff lines taped onto the floor.
    Play the notes of the melody they create on the keyboard or xylophone.


  • Musical Game: Walk to the Beat

    Equipment:

    Activity Instructions:

    Teacher walks around the room with drum in hand and plays fast and slow. Fast and slow tempo = fast and slow steps as you walk/run around the circle. Stop drumbeat for children and teacher to stop altogether.

    Activity Instructions:

    Share some alligator facts from the song with the kids. Then sing song, using puppet chomping his teeth to the beat.
