  • Solfege Song: Happy Birthday

    Activity Instructions:

    Pass out microphones to children. Ask for some of their favorite songs, and sing them together. Then sing through solfege syllables, allowing class to echo. Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, Fa, Mi, Re, Do. Then introduce song for the week.

  • Song w/Ball: Rolling the Ball

    Equipment:

    Activity Instructions:

    Pass out the balls, practice rolling the ball up to head and down to toes. Then play the song and follow along.
    Improvise the bridge… tapping, bouncing on top of the ball, or rolling around your body are all great, depending on the class!

    Activity Instructions:

    Pass out scarves, and have children bounce, dance, etc. The song starts slow but does pick up around the 0:50 mark.

    Activity Instructions:

    Dump a variety bucket of instruments out for children to play and try different instruments. Teacher’s choice on background music, make sure that the song lyrics are clean and the topic is child-appropriate. You may want to find out some of your participants favorite popular songs and include them here!


  • Musical Composition Activity: Color Composing 3

    Activity Instructions:

    Before class, print out color composing sheets, and pull crayons that match whatever instrument you are going to play the student compositions on.
    (Boomwhackers, handbells, or xylophone)

    Have students color the squares, and then play their compositions.

     


  • Musical Game: FACE Space Song

    Activity Instructions:

    Have children repeat after you “FACE” the notes for the spaces in the treble clef, from the bottom to the top.

    Then show children each of the notes on the wall. Sing song, indicating which line to run to each time you sing through.

    With Kid Rock, test knowledge on music carpet after playing the game by grabbing an egg shaker and placing it on the spaces, prompt students if they need help by counting up each line using FACE.

    Use fish puppet to sing song.

    Start rhythm on keyboard. Then sing song, putting each child’s name in the song. Adjust the ending based on the number of children you have – feel free to repeat or not, and add goodbyes to mommies, daddies, instruments, etc, if needed to finish the musical phrasing, depending upon the size of your class.
