    Play the .mp3s, or use a keyboard or keyboard app to play a note, and major chord, see if the children hear the difference. A chord is multiple notes played together, the note is just one pitch. Have children tell you what they hear. Once they have that, try playing a major chord (happy chord) and minor chord (sad chord) to see if they hear the difference. Children do better at hearing the difference when you start with a major chord, then they h ear the contrast of a minor chord.

    Pass out scarves, then practice playing peek a boo.  Then sing songs several time. Make sure to pop up on the final boo. The children love the repitition in the delayed peek-a-boo.

  • Color or Shape Song: Flower Color Song (Down by the Station)

    Activity Instructions:

    Before class, make sure to print out the flowers and hang them on the wall. Go over the colors, then sing the song, and have children run and touch the flower color that you are singing about. Repeat all colors at least twice.

    Activity Instructions:

    Pass out echo microphones. Have children explore speaking in the top of them. Then ask for some of the classes favorite songs and sing them.
    Have the children echo solfege syllables, Do-Sol ascending and descending one syllable at a time.

    Teach the song by singing the syllables a little bit at a time and have children echo back. Then sing the song with regular lyrics.

    Activity Instructions:

    Dump a variety bucket of instruments out for children to play and try different instruments. Teacher’s choice on background music, make sure that the song lyrics are clean and the topic is child-appropriate. You may want to find out some of your participants favorite popular songs and include them here!

    Activity Instructions:

    Have children point to rhythms on a sheet, and sing what they point to.

    Too = Half Note
    Syncopa = Eighth Quarter Eighth


  • Musical Game: Ear Training Game

    Activity Instructions:

    Play the .mp3s, or use a keyboard or keyboard app to play a note, and major chord, see if the children hear the difference. A chord is multiple notes played together, the note is just one pitch. Have children tell you what they hear. Once they have that, try playing a major chord (happy chord) and minor chord (sad chord) to see if they hear the difference. Children do better at hearing the difference when you start with a major chord, then they h ear the contrast of a minor chord.
