    Activity Instructions:

    Print out the shapes and hang on the wall before class. Review the shapes, then sing the song, and have children run to the item that you are singing about.

    Pass out instrument to students. Allow them to explore hitting the triangles, or have parents hit the triangle and watch the children’s faces for their reaction to the song. Review using the striker to hit the sides, as well as the triangle roll. Sing the song several times through.

    Activity Instructions:

    Let children and parents know that you are going to do a body awareness song. Practice the motions in the song, then do them with the music. The pattern repeats three times with extra waving goodbye at the end of the song. Do this acapella with the keyboard unless you have advanced kids in Kid Rock who can keep up.

    Activity Instructions:

    Pass out echo microphones. Have children explore speaking into the top of them. Then ask for some of the classes favorite songs and sing them. Have the children echo solfege syllables, Do-Sol ascending and descending one syllable at a time. Teach the song by singing the syllables a little bit at a time and have children echo back. Then sing the song with regular lyrics.

    Dump a variety bucket of instruments out for children to play and try different instruments. Teacher’s choice on background music, make sure that the song lyrics are clean and the topic is child-appropriate. You may want to find out some of your participants favorite popular songs and include them here!

  • Musical Game: Ear Training Game

    Ear Training Game

    Activity Instructions:

    Play the .mp3s, or use a keyboard or keyboard app to play a note, and major chord, see if the children hear the difference. A chord is multiple notes played together, the note is just one pitch. Have children tell you what they hear. Once they have that, try playing a major chord (happy chord) and minor chord (sad chord) to see if they hear the difference. Children do better at hearing the difference when you start with a major chord, then they h ear the contrast of a minor chord.

    Use pony puppet to sing song, with cow, frog, duck, and puppy finger puppets.

    Activity Instructions:

    Start rhythm on keyboard. Then sing song, putting each child’s name in the song. Adjust the ending based on the number of children you have – feel free to repeat or not, and add goodbyes to mommies, daddies, instruments, etc, if needed to finish the musical phrasing, depending upon the size of your class.
